Hi Everyone!

My name is Katie, and I decided to create this blog to document what I go through as I start to venture into the working world.  I am getting my Master's in Library and Information Science at Wayne State University in Detroit, with an emphasis on Public Library Services to Children and Young Adults.  I am also a part of the Project ALFA Cohort which is comprised of students from both Wayne State and the University of Alabama.  "ALFA" stands for "Accessible Libraries for All", which as a disabled future library professional (I have Cerebral Palsy, and use a wheelchair most of the time) is something near and dear to my heart.  Making libraries accessible for persons of varying disabilities, whether they be physical, sensory, cognitive, etc. is an important step forward in making certain that disabled persons have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers.

Next semester (starting in January) I will be undergoing a practicum at the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at the Douglass Branch of the Detroit Public Library.  I am very excited, and as January draws near, you will probably hear from me more frequently as I recount my experiences at the library.  I hope you enjoy, and if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments!

All the best, and have a Happy Holiday!

Katie
